In the beginning:
Our ancestors arrived from Europe beginning with the voyage of the Mayflower from Pymouth, England to the Plantation at New England. There Richard Warren was recorded among the first to disembarq and met hostile natives. Soon the Mayflower found safe anchor at what was to become Plymouth Colony.
John Stith, a lawyer arrived in Virginia about 1640 well after the Virginia Plantation had been established. He became prominent and soon held both government office and Rank in the Militia. His land was located in Charles City County, Virginia.
Machiel Mesger arrived at Long Island, New Amsterdam in 1647 aboard the Princess Amelia from Amsterdam, Holland. Machiel emigrated from Germany to Holland where he found passage. Machiel was perhaps employed at farming and/or lumberman after arriving in New Amsterdam.
Rowland Powell arrived in Gloucester, Massachusetts about 1650. Where he disembarqed is uncertain as well as the vessel he arrived on. Rowland farmed and later moved to Lebanon, Connecticut.
Joshua Hoopes arrived at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania October 1683 aboard The Providence from England. He soon acquired land and began farming in Pennsylvania.
Peter Niemela emigrated from Kemi, Finland via Hammerfist, Norway in 1873 to the United States where he soon found employment at Calumet, Michigan in the copper mines.
We have been handed so much by our ancestor's love and knowledge. Their
knowledge and experience came from labor, courage, imagination, faith
and hope. Some well educated and some with little. Their combined
knowledge and practical skills, a combined energy that has accomplished
marvelous things.
