Retired citizen who appreciates the opportunity the United States provided. Happiness comes from love and recognition. Not from stores and catalogs who can only provide the tools to achieve. The rest is up to you. No matter where you are, remember how you got there.
Did you know? The first paved road in the Northwest was built in the Columbia River Gorge by Sam Hill. Between 1909 and 1913 this road twisted and turned up the mountain toward Goldendale, WA. The road was constructed to deliver goods and passengers from the Goldendale and Centerville area to and from his railroad. Highway 97 was relocated in 1948, but the Maryhill Loops still exists and is in use. During summer, one can walk or bike the old road. Events, tours and sight seeing keep the road in repair. The lands are the property of the Maryhill Museum of Fine Art. The Maryhill Museum, Stone Henge, a hotel that burned, a concrete dam, a concrete garage that burned and a dwelling for two Maid Servants were also constructed by Sam Hill on these lands.
We have entered difficult economic times. Some compare our economy to the Great Depression. Maybe the potential is true, but the reality is not. For any who will suffer loss or have loss, my regrets. One thing is apparent. We should not have allowed ourselves to become too dependent upon convenient political solutions. We have added hundreds of years repayment upon our descendants. A legacy we should not take pride in.
